Kodansha Europe is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kodansha publishing group of Tokyo, Japan. Set up in 1990, one of Kodansha Europe’s principle roles has been the import and sale of Kodansha International’s books on Japanese culture. Founded in 1963 with a mission to increase understanding of Japan and its culture worldwide, the company felt that this had now been accomplished, and the baton taken up by many other publishers around the world. Kodansha International ceased trading at the end of April 2011. Throughout the years, these publications have been consistently praised for their integrity, authority and quality of both production and content. We are delighted to say that these wonderful books will be reprinted within the group and continue to be made available through Kodansha Europe.
In recent years Kodansha Europe has broadened its horizons and is privileged to represent the books of Orchid Press and Serindia Publications, two quality publishers whose contributions to the better understanding of the art and culture of Asia is well recognised. From 2009 we have been proud to offer the wonderful photography books on Asian themes of Hans Kemp through his Visionary World imprint. From 2010 we have represented renowned travel photographer Kraig Lieb's brilliant cultural work through his imprint Purple Moon Publications, beginning with his classic on the living Mayan culture of Guatemala.
September 2011 has seen the addition of two more publishers. HPH Publishing of South Africa was set up by Heinrich van den Berg in 2001 as a specialist high-quality vehicle for the astonishing Nature & Wildlife photographs of the world-renowned Van den Bergs, a 3-person team that produce the most iconic, stunning images imaginable, reproduced at the highest quality level technology allows.
We are delighted also to announce the addition of Niyogi Books to our portfolio. This is a discerning list specialising in the profound culture of India in its many aspects, from philosophy, to art & iconography, poetry, fiction, history, cricket and Bollywood! Niyogi books are characterised by high quality in both content and production.
