Kodansha Europe is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kodansha publishing group of Tokyo, Japan. Set up in 1990, one of Kodansha Europe’s principle roles has been the import and sale of Kodansha International’s books on Japanese culture. Kodansha International was founded in 1963 with the express purpose of increasing understanding of Japan and its culture worldwide. Throughout the years, these publications have been consistently praised for their integrity, authority and sheer quality of both production and content.
While Japan remains central to our work, more recently Kodansha Europe has broadened its horizons and is fortunate in representing the books of Orchid Press and Serindia Publications, two quality publishers whose contributions to the better understanding of the art and culture of other parts of Asia is well recognised. From January 2009 we are proud to be able to offer the wonderful photography books on Asian themes of Hans Kemp, through his Visionary World imprint. From September 2010 we also privileged to represent renowned travel photographer Kraig Lieb's brilliant work through his imprint Purple Moon Publications.
